Finnish phone company Nokia has announced a deal with national telecommunications provider Viettel Global to launch 5G equipment in 22 provinces across Việt Nam.

5G is a fifth-generation technology standard for mobile networks that provides higher data speeds, low latency and more network capacity.

“The equipment will be produced by our manufacturer in Việt Nam, which shows our commitment to the region,” a representative from Nokia said.

The company noted in a statement that the move will support Viettel’s strategy of advancing 5G infrastructure and the digital transformation. Nokia will also help modernise Viettel's older 4G infrastructure, with deployment expected to begin later this year.

Among the equipment set for deployment are products in Nokia's AirScale line, including the new AirScale frequency bands, Massive MIMO radios and Remote Radio Head products.

Production of the line began in June, and the quantity of products has increased this month.

Production is taking place in the Chinese electronics manufacturer Foxconn’s factory in Bắc Giang Province. — VNS
