Smart phone accounted for 32.7 per cent, two times higher than that in the same period last year.

The IDC statistics showed the rapid development of the Windows Phone operating system, which stood at the second place with 15.3 per cent in Q2/2013. This operating system increased by 119 per cent, from 5.7 per cent in Q2/2012.

The Android operating system tops the Vietnamese market with 82.2 per cent, while Apple's iOS took the third spot with only 1.6 per cent.

Daniel Pang, research manager at IDC's Asia-Pacific Client Devices Research Team, said that the high popularity of the Nokia Lumia 520 helped Windows Phone 8 increase its share in the Vietnamese market. He added that if it maintained its strengths, Nokia could make more impact than other providers.

The figures were made based on the number of mobile phones imported to Viet Nam through official stores. — VNS
