HA NOI (Biz Hub) — IBM Corporation on September 24 announced that it has provided cloud computing solutions for Vietnam International Bank (VIB), enhancing its operational performance.

The two sides implemented a virtualised IBM cloud solution based on an IBM PureFlex System Express solution, an IBM System Storage device and IBM SmartCloud Entry software.

After the first four months, VIB consolidated its infrastructure by 90 per cent, reduced the power and cooling requirements by 76 per cent and cut server rack space by 81 per cent. The new computing capabilities are also improving the bank's applications availability and efficiency, for example, by reducing the batch processing time for daily transactions by more than 50 per cent, from 180 to 90 minutes.

After a 11-month operation, VIB has saved nearly 80 per cent on power for IT infrastructure, reduced the software licensing fee, and has shortened the time-to-market of new innovative banking products and services from months to days.

"VIB is one of the first banks in Viet Nam to adopt cloud computing to drive business transformation and become a modern, digital bank," Tran Nhat Minh, Deputy Director of VIB, said. "With the help of IBM, we are now ready to address key market trends such as social and mobile adoption, and better respond to our customer demands for a more personalised and convenient way of banking."

Tran Mai Huong, Enterprise Sales Unit Manager for the Northern Region, IBM Vietnam, said that cloud computing has rapidly become a strategic requirement of organisations. "With the availability of enterprise-grade, highly secured and agile cloud environments, financial institutions can now easily integrate cloud solutions into their existing infrastructure and draw significant results. We are glad that IBM's cloud solutions have helped VIB to transform its banking operations, provide more customer-centric services, and contribute to the bank's overall growth," she said.

VIB, established in 1996, is one of the first non-state-owned banks in Viet Nam to invest in core banking solutions since 2006. VIB operates 160 branches and offices throughout Viet Nam, and has more than 3,500 employees. — VNS
