HA NOI (Biz Hub) — Nearly 50,000 Gmail accounts of Vietnamese users have been leaked, a local website on network security has reported.

The website www.securitydaily.net, which information technology (IT) experts have founded, said a member of a Russian forum at www.forum.btcsec.com posted a list of the users' names and passwords of about five million Gmail accounts on September 9, including a large number of addresses from users in Viet Nam.

According to Security Daily, there has been no information on Gmail being placed under attack so far, but accounts may be leaked when hacker teams defraud users. The website builds a tool to check if users' emails are on the list, with a commitment to avoid collecting any information on its users.

It suggested that users check the list of attacked emails and change their passwords immediately if their emails are on the list. The site also urged users to activate Google's two-step verification process to enhance the security of their accounts.

IT experts of the website advised users to avoid clicking on any strange links sent to their emails and avoid downloading and opening attached files in emails sent from unfamiliar addresses. — VNS
