HCM CITY (Biz Hub) — The Integrated Circuit Design Research and Education Center (ICDREC), on August 1, signed an agreement with Saigon Hi-tech Park's Labs to apply SG8V1 and HF RFID chips in CTS-01 container tracking systems.

This is one of the activities in a programme to develop the integrated circuit industry in HCM City from 2013 to 2020.

The CTS-01 system helps to monitor and control containers that travel long distances with one server and a centralised database. The terminal equipment will be installed on containers as a lock instead of traditional container tracker seals.

Users need an RFID card to unlock it, and the equipment will send data on location, speed, route, lock/unlock status, lock/unlock confirmation in real time, and its digital map. The 1.4 kilogramme lock can operate continuously for 240 hours. It has an integrated global positioning system (GPS) and GSM/GPRS quad band for Vietnamese mobile networks Viettel, MobiFone and VinaPhone.

CTS-01 container tracking system will monitor and control containers from long distance with one server and a centralised database.

Ngo Duc Hoang, Director of ICDREC, said that the system was useful for tracking itineraries of containers, meeting the demands of management and handling of transport enterprises.

Hoang also said that the centre and SHTP Labs, which is situated in the Saigon Hi-tech Park, are cooperating with many other transport firms, such as Saigon Newport Corporation and Tan Thanh Trading Mechanic Corporation, in applying this technology in transport management.

At the event, ICDREC and SHTP labs signed an agreement to develop and expand the market of CTS-01 product with two partners, Hung Thai Company and Nam Thang Transport Co., Ltd.

Speaking at the event, Vice Chairman of HCM City People's Committee Le Manh Ha said that CTS-01 and previous products by the two firms have affirmed the ability of the technology produced at these research centres and enterprises in the city.

He said that HCM City will boost its budget support for science research on products that could be applied in practice, especially in fields supporting industries in the city's development plan. — VNS
