HA NOI (Biz Hub) — Military-run telecommunications group Viettel said it is ready to provide 4G network services, the fourth generation mobile telecom technology services, to the public.

4G can help operators provide customers with mobile data services that are ten times faster than 3G's maximum speed.

Ho Tri Dung, a representative of Viettel, said it has developed comprehensive infrastructure and human resources to offer the services, while awaiting permission from authorities to provide 4G network services to customers.

Viettel's pilot 4G programmes in the southern city of Vung Tau have shown satisfactory results, he said, adding that the services should become more widespread soon, for the sake of customers, because the operational cost of 4G will be less expensive than 3G.

Of note, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Phan Tam told an April meeting that the ministry would grant a 4G licence in 2016.

Further, Viet Nam hopes 3G and 4G networks will cover 95 per cent of residential homes by 2020, Tam said earlier this year. — VNS
