VN enterprises pay more attention to developing e-commerce

HA NOI (Biz Hub) — E-commerce will be the number one tool for Vietnamese enterprises to effectively advertise their products and services to customers, especially those in international markets.

Director of the Ministry of Industry and Trade's Vietnam E-commerce and Information Technology Agency (VEITA) Tran Huu Linh said this at the International E-Commerce Conference, Meet Magento, held in Ha Noi late last week.

Over the past years, domestic enterprises have paid more attention to using e-commerce to seek more customers, Linh said, adding that half of the 300,000 operating enterprises have their own websites and have implemented e-commerce.

The participants of the conference agreed that Viet Nam was a potential market for e-commerce development, with one-third of the population regularly accessing the internet.

During 10 years of development, Viet Nam's e-commerce has established a good platform and market for expansion, they said.

Previously, eMarketer, an independent market research company that provides insights and trends related to digital marketing, media and commerce, forecast that 2015 would be a booming year for e-commerce with an estimated turnover of US$4 billion.

Magento is an open-source platform for creating e-commerce websites. Nearly 300,000 businesses worldwide have selected the Magento platform to provide e-commerce solutions.

The Meet Magento conference is organised annually in 17 countries.

Beginning with the first event in the beautiful city of Leipzig (Germany), the conference has developed into a successful international event series over the years, through strong co-operation with all selected local organisers and a passion for Magento and e-commerce.

The Ha Noi meet is the first conference to be held in Asia. The event was attended by more than 500 participants from the United States, Germany, Netherlands and Japan, besides Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines, as well as Thailand, Hong Kong and Viet Nam.

"We want to build a strong Magento community not only in Viet Nam, but also in the whole of Asia," Nguyen Chi Hieu, chairman of SmartOSC JSC, the conference's organiser, said.

He described the event as a place where economists, businesses and service providers, including Magento partners, can converge to share their experiences, spread new ideas as well as get more valuable business opportunities.

During the event, participants heard about global e-commerce development, the strategic development of e-commerce in major corporations around the world, experiences in building effective business models and the technological development of Magento and entrepreneurship with e-commerce.

They also got an opportunity to interact with hundreds of programmers and experts from all over the country and build global relationships with e-commerce partners. — VNS
