DAVOS (Biz Hub) — Viet Nam has slipped one place to rank 85th out of 143 economies in the Network Readiness Index 2015 Rankings, according to a recently-released Global Information Technology Report by the World Economic Forum.

This year Singapore goes past Finland to top the rankings while Sweden, the Netherlands and Norway, Switzerland and the United States remain in the third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh positions. Japan is the only Asian country in the top 10, jumping six places from 16 in 2014.

China's rank remains unchanged in the 62nd position, while Russia climbs nine places to end at 41. India, whose ICT sector has made a large contribution to the country's GDP, is 89, down six places from 2014.

In Southeast Asia, Laos has shown excellent results when jumping 12 places to reach 97. Cambodia and Myanmar are ranked the lowest in the region, finishing at 110 and 139, respectively. Thailand retains its 67th position, while Malaysia is down two places to 32, and Indonesia falls 15 places to 79.

Burundi, Guinea and Chad are in the last group of the rankings, staying at 141, 142 and 143, respectively.

The index measures, on a scale from 1 (worst) to 7 (best), the performance of countries in leveraging information and communications technologies to boost competitiveness and well-being.

Under the theme ICTs for Inclusive Growth, the report showcases solutions to allow everyone to benefit from and participate in the ICT revolution and to contribute to a more prosperous and inclusive world. — VNS
