Phú Mỹ Hưng organises Prosperous Spring festival
The 2017 Phú Mỹ Hưng Spring Flower Festival has opened in HCM City’s District 7 a few days before Tết (Lunar New Year).
With the theme Xuân No Ấm (Prosperous Spring) this year the festival, organised by the Phú Mỹ Hưng Development Corporation, is being held at The Crescent and is expected to attract thousands of visitors.
As its theme suggests, the festival is about Vietnamese people’s dreams of enjoying prosperity in the Year of the Rooster.
The festival this year recreates the cultural space of a prosperous, romantic, traditional village with meadows and flowers. It evokes the joyful atmosphere of Tết to people after a full year of hard work.
The festival opened with a performance of Chầu Văn (ritual), a spiritual art.
Trương Quốc Hưng, Vice President of Phú Mỹ Hưng Development Corporation, said practices related to the Vietnamese belief in the Mother Goddesses of the Three Realms, including Chầu Văn, was recognised by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity last December.
The festival organisers wanted to introduce this heritage to visitors, Hưng said, adding that the performance made the festival more attractive.
It also met the festival’s aim of bringing together Việt Nam’s unique cultural features.
The 2017 Phú Mỹ Hưng Spring Flower Festival has four distinct areas — Đường Xuân (Spring Road), Vườn Xuân (Spring Garden), Bến Xuân (Spring Wharf), and Góp Xuân (Spring Contribution).
Spring Road, which is again divided into four, is the main area of the festival, clearly indicating the theme of a prosperous spring.
The beginning of the spring road is the area of the rooster – the animal after which the year is named — and is called Ngày Mới (a new day).
In Ngày Mới are cute rooster families made out of several materials and many flower baskets and flowerpots in the shape of flocks of chickens.
A collection of pictures of many chicken varieties in Việt Nam will be on display.
The area has been beautified with many kinds of medicinal herbs.
Next is the Bội Thu (fruitful) area, where visitors can enjoy a rural ambience. The yellow paddy fields with kites flying in the blue sky are sure to evoke memories of their childhood in the countryside in many visitors.
Life in the countryside has never been so vividly recreated, with straw men in various shapes, colourful dragonflies flying in the sky and in paddy fields and a sunflower garden.
The final part of spring road is No Ấm (prosperous), where people can admire installation arts made from things like flowerpots and chicken cages, common items in day-to-day life in rural areas, have been installed in a romantic garden.
Rural life is fully represented, with a traditional house and market installed with rice pots, traditional five-fruit trays and specialties from all parts of the country.
Visitors will next reach Spring Garden, a place filled with trees and vegetable plants.
It will also be the venue of a competition to choose the most beautiful flowers of the festival.
Spring Wharf is on The Crescent Lake, a unique feature which can only be found in the Phú Mỹ Hưng Spring Flower Festival. It recreates the floating life of farmers.
Visitors to Spring Wharf can float flower lanterns in the lake to ask for good fortune and peace in the new year.
Spring Contribution showcased floral artworks by growers and artisans from neighbouring provinces like Bến Tre, Tây Ninh, Long An.
At the event, 500 booths sell flowers and 200 others sell various products like cakes and sweets for Tết.
Traditional foods from the country’s three regions and other countries will also be sold at the festival. Every night the event will come to life with free music performances.
The event which opened on December 23 will go on until the January sixth of the first lunar month.
