HA NOI (Biz Hub) — National carrier Vietnam Airlines (VNA) and Japan's ANA Holdings Inc has announced their codeshare partnership and frequent flyer programmes, which start on October 30.

The codeshare partnership will initially cover 10 international routes, linking Japan and Việt Nam. It will also link 25 key domestic routes in both countries, allowing passengers to travel more conveniently through the region.

The launch of this programme follows ANA's acquisition of 8.8 per cent stake in VNA in June. In addition to capital investment, the commercial partnership will allow both airlines to extend and improve their services across Asia, taking advantage of the rising demand across the region for air travel and cargo services.

VNA's cabin crew will join ANA flights in order to interpret for customers and make in-flight announcements in Vietnamese. The two airlines will also integrate airport support activities such as check-in, lounge and baggage services at select airports, including Haneda airport in Japan and southern Tan Son Nhat Airport in Viet Nam.

Duong Tri Thanh, president and CEO of VNA, said the co-operation with ANA would help VNA diversify its products and become more competitive in the global market. "Through strategic long-term development cooperation and experiences from ANA, Vietnam Airlines' goal of becoming a five-star airline will become more reachable," Thanh said.

There is a strong and growing demand for air services between Japan and Viet Nam, president and CEO of ANA Holdings Shinya Katanozaka said. ANA and VNA together can play a vital role as a bridge between the two countries, promoting greater economic, cultural and personal ties. Their combined industry expertise can mean a win-win partnership, he said.

The frequent flyer partnership will allow members of ANA Mileage Club (AMC) and VNA's Lotusmiles to accumulate miles on their codeshare flights. Fliers will be allowed to redeem points on both VNA and ANA marketed and operated flights. — VNS
