The Ministry of Transport has selected the three best terminal designs for Long Thanh International Airport to submit to the Government for approval.
According to the Airport Corporation of Viet Nam (ACV) the designs were chosen from nine designs displayed at exhibitions in Ha Noi, Da Nang, HCM City and Dong Nai from on November 28 to January 23, 2017 to collect public feedback.
Three of the designs were selected by the ACV – one in the shape of a lotus flower from a company from the Republic of Korea; one in the shape of palm-leaf from a Viet Nam-Japan-Singapore joint venture; and the last designed by a Japan-France joint venture using bamboo furniture.
The construction of Long Thanh International Airport has total investment capital of US$16.03 billion.
The Long Thanh airport will sit on an area of 5,000 ha in Dong Nai Province – some 40kms east of HCM City.
The airport is expected to have a capacity of 100 million passengers a year and be able to handle five million tonnes of cargo a year.
When operational, the airport will be an important international airport of the country and an international and regional transit terminal.
It is hoped to help ease overloading at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in HCM City — VNS
