HA NOI (Biz Hub) — The first 200 kilograms of mangoes from Viet Nam have been exported to South Korea, according to Viet Nam's Plant Protection Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The fruit has been selected carefully and treated in hot steam before being transported by airplanes. Firms are preparing to export larger cargoes to that country's market.

In November 2013, South Korea officially opened its doors to Vietnamese mangoes. The mangoes are required to have been treated with chemicals not exceeding the permitted level of use in South Korea, before they can enter the market. They also must be checked to prevent any risks of spreading plant infections. The Vietnamese plant protection department assesses the quality of the soil and gives permits, and South Korea then approves them. — VNS
