Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc praised the important role of the Vietnamese business community in national development at a ceremony in Ha Noi on Sunday to mark the 15th anniversary of Vietnam Entrepreneurs’ Day.

In his speech at the event, the PM highlighted the country’s recent achievements such as the elevation of 10 places on competitiveness in the World Economic Forum’s latest report. He attributed the outcomes to the business community’s contributions.

He affirmed the Party and State will continue promoting institutional reform toward regional and global standards to create an environment for the business community’s sustainable growth.

He called for the community to join hands with the Party and State in efforts to fight corruption, reform legal institutions, and improve the country’s business climate.

He urged entrepreneurs to promote their national pride, abide by the law, increase transparency, build the business culture as well as the ethical and social responsibility of enterprises, and move towards better competitiveness and innovation, as highlighted in the Government’s Resolution 35 on business development.

The PM suggested the community team up with universities and research institutes in training a high-quality workforce.

He expressed his pleasure that there were more than 102,000 new firms established in the first nine months of the year, with registered charter capital worth over VND12 billion (US$516,000) on average – the highest level to date.

Prosperous businesses mean a prosperous nation, he stated.

On this occasion, he congratulated prominent entrepreneurs who were honoured with Thanh Giong Cup 2019.

First organised by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry in 2006, the Thanh Giong Cup is granted to 100 outstanding entrepreneurs nationwide every three years. The winners are business leaders who showed distinct contributions to their enterprises and to Viet Nam’s socio-economic development. — VNS
