HA NOI (Biz Hub) — Lam Dong's plant protection sub-department announced on December 10 that farmers in the province have imported more than 18 million lily bulbs in preparation for the Vietnamese Lunar New Year.

The demand for lilies increases during holidays, especially the Vietnamese Lunar New Year or the Tet holiday.

To meet the market demand, lily farmers in Lam Dong get ready for Tet by importing the bulbs from the Netherlands and New Zealand. The bulbs are planted in 72 hectares, with a year-on-year increase of 23 hectares. It is expected that more than 20 million lily branches will be supplied during Tet.

In the first 11 months of this year, 37.2 million lily bulbs were imported by farmers and planting companies in the province. Lilies are planted in Lam Dong's Da Lat city and in the neighbouring districts of Lac Duong and Duc Trong.

The sub-department recommended that the lily farmers should take measures in advance to prevent diseases, including yellow foliage and root rot, of the flowers. — VNS
