Exports to Singapore surge

SINGAPORE (VNS)— Viet Nam's exports to Singapore reached US$554 million in the first quarter of 2013, up by more than 30 per cent over the same period last year.

According to the Singapore Department of Statistics, mobile phones and components, machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts were key items imported from Viet Nam in the quarter.

The department noted the re-appearance of crude oil on the list of imported goods after being absent in the first quarter of 2012.

Vietnamese rice and black pepper, footwear, wood and woodworks, paper and paper products, electric and cable wires reported increases in export value.

Meanwhile, Singapore gained more than $2.3 billion from the sale of goods to Viet Nam. Petroleum, machinery, equipment and tools were key products shipped.

In 2012, two-way trade between Viet Nam and Singapore reached $12.8 billion, up by 6.2 per cent against the previous year.-VNS
