HA NOI (Biz Hub) — Thailand-based power firm EGAT International (EGATi) will develop a 1,200 MW thermal power plant in the central province of Quang Tri.

Under a Memorandum of Understanding signed between Deputy Director of the Energy Department from the Ministry of Trade and Industry Le Tuan Phong and EGATI's Chairman Thana Putarungsi on June 24, turbine 1 and 2 of the plant are expected to be operational by 2021 with an annual production of 7.25 billion kWh.

EGATi chairman said his company attaches a lot of importance to the plant. It has asked the Thai Government for approval of the project's plan and implementation progress as well.

According to the local media, the Vietnamese Government allowed EGATi to implement the US$2.3 billion project under the Build-Operate–Transfer method in August 2014. —VNS
