QUANG NAM (Biz Hub)— Central Quang Nam Province has granted an investment licence to a five-star hotel chain for a beach resort worth VND500 billion (US$24 million) in Hoi An city.

The province's office said in a statement on August 11 that work on the Holiday Inn Hoi An resort project will begin next January on an area of 60 hectares along An Bang beach, three kilometres east of Hoi An City, which was voted one of the top 100 beaches in the world by CNN Summer Travel last year.

The beach resort, which will include hotels, villas and bungalows, is scheduled for completion by 2017.

A local report said that Quang Nam's tourism industry had contributed VND3.5 ($167 million) over the past decade, equal to 10 per cent of the province's Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

The province, home to world heritage sites Hoi An, My Son sanctuary and Cham Island biosphere reserve, has already attracted 110 tourism projects since 1997.

Investors have built 80 international standard hotels and resorts with 5,000 rooms while the provincial tourism industry had created 15,000 jobs. — VNS
