SOC TRANG (Biz Hub) — Bayer Vietnam together with the Voice of HCM City Radio and the People's Committee of Vinh Quoi Ward, Soc Trang Province, and local people celebrated the new Vinh Hoa Bridge that was opened to the public last week.

The bridge, measuring 46 metres long and 2.2 meters wide, is a reinforced concrete structure. Construction began in May and this VND230 million (US$12,000) work received financial support from Bayer Vietnam.

Speaking at the inauguration, a Bayer representative said: "We are pleased that the Vinh Hoa Bridge has been successfully completed. The new bridge will bring safe mobility to local people, especially young children at this new school year time.

"We strongly believe this will make a significant contribution to local infrastructure and create commercial connections between Vinh Quoi Ward and local people."

Before the construction of the new bridge, locals, including children, in this area had to use basic cable pulleys or small, unsafe ferries to carry people and motorbikes across the river. This was very unsafe and caused many accidents.

On the occasion of the bridge inauguration, as part of its various activities to support local communities, Bayer Vietnam also sponsored free health checks and provided medicines and essential items to 500 deprived people in Giong Rieng Ward, Kien Giang Province.

The Bayer representative said: "Bayer's social commitment is an established part of our sustainability strategy and corporate policy. Throughout the world, Bayer actively supports charitable causes in the core fields of education and science, health and social needs, and sport and culture, enabling the community to have a better quality of life."

The event was organised by the Tu Thien Thien Tam charity group of the Tan Binh Red Cross in HCMC together with volunteers from Bayer Vietnam. — VNS
