HUNG YEN (Biz Hub) — Hanesbrands Viet Nam, a subsidiary of the United States-based Hanesbrands Inc, opens its third US$15-million factory in Kim Dong district in Hung Yen Province today.

The new factory brings the company's total investment in Viet Nam to $45 million.

"Viet Nam is a major part of the group's supply chain in Asia," said Senior Vice President - Global Operations of Hanesbrands Javier Chacon.

Built on an area of 84,553 sqm, the new plant has recruited 2000 employees, and is expected to hire 5,500 to 6000 local residents once it becomes fully operational. With an annual manufacturing capacity of more than 67 million products, the facility will focus on producing and processing garment products, especially bras and woven boxers, two new categories in Viet Nam.

It not only expands Hanesbrands' manufacturing bases in the country, but also enables the company to better meet the increasing demands of developed markets such as the United States, Japan and Canada, as well as China," said Chacon.

Entered the country since 2007, Hanesbrands Viet Nam has set up two production hubs in the northern Hung Yen and central Thua Thien-Hue provinces, with a total capacity of producing 400 million products per year.

By end of 2014, the company expects to employ almost 10,000 employees in Viet Nam, comprising nearly 20 per cent of Hanesbrands' global workforce. — VNS
