TAY NINH (Biz Hub) — The People's Committee of the southern province of Tay Ninh has postponed the implementation of the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Golf Resort project because of unresolved issues with the project investor.

The 187ha site for the proposed international resort is located partly in the Moc Bai Economic Zone in the Ben Cau District's Loi Thuan Commune and partly in Cambodian territory.

CR International Company Ltd. of Malaysia, the investor, had committed to the implementation of the project. However, it has yet to begin construction and announce its specific plans and schedule in spite of numerous requests for information from the Moc Bai Economic Zone management board.

The province has asked the economic zone management board to co-ordinate with the Department of Planning and Investment in the search for new project investors.

The resort project was designed to include an 18-hole golf course, as well as 275 lake villas, five-star hotels and gaming facilities.

The provincial people's committee approved the proposal for the project, which then included the construction of a casino, on March 26, 2007. However, in November 2008, the Prime Minister rejected the proposal to construct the casino.

Four years later, the Prime Minister asked the province to refrain from constructing a golf course on the border of the two countries but allowed the investor to construct it on Vietnamese soil. — VNS
