Vietnamese shares gained slightly on Wednesday morning, driven by financial-banking companies.
The benchmark VN-Index on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange edged up 0.56 per cent to close at 1,006.93 points.
The southern market index rose 1.70 per cent on Tuesday.
More than 131.4 million shares were exchanged on the southern bourse, worth VND3.03 trillion (US$130.25 million).
Banks and financial firms continued to lift the stock market in the morning session.
The banking, securities and insurance sector indices gained between 0.3 and 1.6 per cent, data on vietstock.vn showed.
Among gaining bank stocks were VPBank (VPB), Vietinbank (CTG), Techcombank (TCB) and Sacombank (STB).
In the securities and insurance industries, the best-performing stocks included Petrolimex Insurance (PGI), Bao Viet Holdings (BVH), HCM City Securities Corp (HCM), MB Securities (MBS) and VNDirect Securities (VND).
Other sectors that also made strong gains included retail, technology, logistics and rubber.
On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index increased by 0.66 per cent to end at 110.27 points.
The HNX Index has enjoyed two-day growth of 1.23 per cent.
Nearly 54.4 million shares were traded on the northern bourse, worth VND725.5 billion.
