VN stocks extend gains in morning session

Shares extended gains on Wednesday morning, driven by the rally of many blue-chips.

The VN-Index on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange rose 0.44 per cent to close at 973.35 points.

More than 82 million shares were traded on the southern bourse, worth VNĐ2 trillion (US$86 million).

It had gained 0.28 per cent to close Tuesday at 969.05 points.

Key sectors like real estate, mining, food and beverage, banking and construction were the supporters for the market.

On the opposite side, wholesale, securities, agriculture and seafood processing were among those that lost ground.

In the morning session, large-cap stocks such as budget carrier Vietjet Air (VJC), Vinamilk (VNM), Vinhomes (VHM), Vingroup (VIC), Techcombank (TCB) and Vietcombank (VCB) all rallied and created a push to the general market.

VJC rebounded sharply by 1.6 per cent to VND131,000 per share after the information that the Board of Directors approved to buy back 25 million shares (equivalent to 4.61 per cent of charter capital).

In petroleum group, stocks like PetroVietnam Gas (GAS), PetroVietnam Technical Services Corporation (PVS), PetroVietnam Power Corporation (POW), Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical Company Limited (BSR), Viet Nam National Petroleum Group (PLX) and PetroVietnam Drilling and Well Services (PVD) also increased.

Large-cap stocks performed well as the VN30-Index, tracking the 30 largest stocks by market value and trading liquidity, climbed 0.49 per cent to 876.50 points.

Twenty of the 30 stocks in the VN30 basket increased while only nine decreased.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index gained 0.38 per cent to end at 105.50 points.

The northern market index gained 1.24 per cent to end at 105.10 points on Tuesday.

More than 17 million shares were traded on the northern bourse, worth VND250 billion.
