The market rose slightly on Monday morning as many big stocks faced selling pressure.
On the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE), the market benchmark VN-Index climbed 0.1 per cent to 1,182.73 points.
In the morning session, more than 462.2 million shares were traded on the southern bourse, worth over VND9.95 trillion.
The VN30-Index, which tracks the 30 biggest stocks in market value, gained 0.12 per cent to 1,189.26 points but many big stocks fell on selling pressure.
Of the VN30 basket, 14 stocks rose, while 13 declined.
The top stocks with the biggest gains were Vietnam National Petroleum Group (PLX), up 3.6 per cent, Vietcombank (VCB), up 0.31 per cent, and Mobile World Investment Corporation (MWG), up 1.45 per cent.
Meanwhile, large-cap stocks posting big losses in the morning session were Vinhomes JSC (VHM), down 0.7 per cent, Vietnam Rubber Group - JSC, down 0.97 per cent, and CII Bridges & Roads Investment JSC (LGC) which hit the maximum daily loss of 7 per cent.
On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange (HNX), the HNX-Index increased by 1.32 per cent to 277.52 points. The HNX30-Index also climbed to 394.87 points, up 0.12 per cent. VNS
