The market closed mixed on Tuesday morning with the VN-Index breaching the 1,300 point-level, while the HNX-Index fell slightly.
On the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE), the benchmark VN-Index rose 7.12 points, or 0.55 per cent, to 1,305.1 points. The market breadth was still positive with 204 stocks climbing while 195 stocks declined.
The market's liquidity was high as over 403.3 million shares were traded on the southern bourse, worth over VND12.6 trillion.
The upward trend was boosted by gains in some big stocks. The VN30-Index posted a rise of 9.69 points, or 0.68 per cent, to 1,440.17 points. Fifteen of the 30 biggest stocks in the VN30 basket inched higher this morning, while 13 stocks slid and two stayed flat.
Banking was still the leading sector driving the market. Of which, Vietcombank (VCB) was the biggest gainer this morning, up 2.36 per cent. Techcombank (TCB) also witnessed a gain of nearly 1.8 per cent.
Other stocks with good performance during the morning trade were Hoa Phat Group (HPG), up 2.45 per cent, Masan Group (MSN), up 1.79 per cent, and Saigon Beer - Alcohol - Beverage Corporation (SAB), up more than 2 per cent.
Meanwhile, on the Ha Noi Stock Exchange (HNX), the HNX-Index edged down despite gains in large-cap stocks. The index fell 0.01 per cent to 300.31 points, while the HNX30-Index tracking 30 biggest stocks on the bourse increased 0.53 per cent to 455.94 points. VNS
