Shares rose in both local markets on Monday morning, driven by banks and energy firms.
The benchmark VN Index on the HCM Stock Exchange gained 0.36 per cent to close at 771.80 points. It increased by 0.3 per cent on Friday.
The HNX Index on the Ha Noi Stock Exchange gained 0.42 per cent to end at 98.68 points. It declined by a total of 1.5 per cent in the previous three days.
More than 164.5 million shares were traded on both local bourses, worth VND2.65 trillion (US$117.8 million).
Shares of banks and energy firms performed the best on Monday morning, lifting both local exchanges.
Among the nine listed banks, the gainers were Asia Commercial Bank (ACB), BIDV (BID), Vietinbank (CTG), MB Bank (MBB) and Vietcombank (VCB), with growth rates ranging from 0.5 per cent to 1.8 per cent.
Last week, the National Assembly passed a bad debt settlement resolution aimed at helping local lenders deal with their non-performing loans.
Energy stocks also advanced as oil was trading in positive territory. Brent crude increased by one per cent to trade at $46 per barrel.
Gainers in the energy sector included PetroVietnam Gas (GAS), PetroVietnam Drilling and Well Services (PVD) and PetroVietnam Mud Drilling (PVC).
