Stocks fall as blue chips slide

HA NOI (Biz Hub) — Shares extended their losses this morning on both the bourses as the blue chips continued to slide.

On the HCM City Stock Exchange, the VN-Index closed the morning trade 4.87 points lower, or a fall of 0.81 per cent, to end at 596.46 points.

The liquidity eased compared with the previous trading sessions, with 57.7 million shares with a total value of VND1.15 trillion, or $54 million, changing hands.

None of the southern bourse's 30 largest stocks by capitalisation and liquidity managed to increase this morning as investors boosted selling.

With only technology giant FPT Group and Vinamilk ending at their reference prices, the VN30-Index dropped 1.04 per cent to close at 663.08 points.

The big losers this morning were Vingroup which lost VND1,500, or $0.07; the PetroVietnam Fertilisers and Chemicals Corporation; the Hoa Sen Group; and PetroVietnam Drilling.

The Kinh Do Corporation dropped VND3,000, or $0.14, after falling to its floor price yesterday.

On the Ha Noi Exchange, the HNX-Index and the HNXFF-Index posted losses of 0.44 per cent and 0.15 per cent to end at 87.26 points and 88.82 points respectively.

The HNX30-Index slid 0.09 per cent to close at 182.83 points.

More than 53.8 million shares with a total trading value of VND627 billion, or $29.8 million, changed hands on the northern bourse this morning. — VNS
