Stocks extend rally as blue chips rise

HANOI (Biz Hub) — Many blue chips rebounded this morning, helping shares to extend their gains on both the stock exchanges.

The VN-Index on the HCM Stock Exchange climbed 0.62 per cent to close at 582.36 points.

Twenty-two of the top 30 shares by market value and liquidity rose, pushing the VN30 up by 0.7 per cent to finish at 624.52 points. These gainers included heavyweight shares such as Bao Viet Holdings (BVH), Vinamilk (VNM), Vietcombank (VCB), FPT Corp (FPT) and Vietinbank (CTG).

Trading exploded when 82.6 million shares worth over VND1.7 trillion or US$80.6 million were exchanged by the end of the morning. This was twice the value of yesterday morning's trading.

The realty stocks continued to draw investors and five of the most active codes were from this sector. The Tan Tao Investment Industry Corp (ITA) was again the most heavily-traded stock, with 8.18 million shares being exchanged, an increase of 2.44 per cent to reach VND8,400 per share.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index added another 0.65 per cent to end at 79.40 points, as the gainers were twice the number of losers.

More than 83 million shares, worth nearly VND846 billion or $40.1 million, were traded by the end of the morning.

Sacomreal (SCR) and Saigon-Ha Noi Bank (SHB) saw the highest trading with more than 5 million shares of each being exchanged. SCR went up by 3.45 per cent to end at VND9,000 per share, while SHB increased by 2.04 per cent to close at VND10,000 per share.
