Shares struggle on rising Covid cases, VN-Index keeps rising

Vietnamese stocks struggled in volatile markets on Thursday morning with sentiment hit by increasing COVID-19 cases nationwide, but VN-Index managed to increase. Photo cafef.vn

Vietnamese stocks struggled in volatile markets on Thursday morning with sentiment hit by increasing COVID-19 cases nationwide, but VN-Index managed to increase.

On the Ho Chi Minh stock Exchange (HoSE), the VN-Index closed at 1,257.52 points, up 0.09 per cent. The market breadth turned neutral with 203 stocks jumping while 195 stocks declined.

The market liquidity was low as nearly 398.4 million shares were traded on HoSE, worth over VND11 trillion.

The 30 biggest stocks tracker, VN30-Index, rose 0.19 per cent to 1,349.42 points.

Of the VN30 basket, 19 stocks increased while only nine decreased.

Many big stocks from banking sectors increased this morning such as Techcombank (TCB), VPBank (VPBB), MBBank (MBB), and Sacombank (STB).

On the Ha Noi stock Exchange (HNX), the HNX-Index also rose 0.08 per cent to 283.17 points. — VNS
