HA NOI (Biz Hub) — Vietnamese shares were volatile in the early session, while trading liquidity remained low.
The benchmark VN Index on the HCM Stock Exchange gained 0.3 per cent to close at 660.94 points.
The HNX Index on the Ha Noi Stock Exchange remained almost unchanged to end at 83.14 points.
Blue chips closed mixed, with dairy firm Vinamilk (VNM), Vietcombank (VCB) and PetroVietnam Gas Corp (GAS) being among the gainers.
VNM was up 0.7 per cent, GAS rose 0.8 per cent and VCB added 1.9 per cent.
Dream House Investment Corp (DRH) was the most attractive stock in the early session, with more than four million of its shares being traded.
DRH surged 6.6 per cent after plunging nearly 70 per cent in almost a month.
Other stocks such as Vicostone JSC (VCS), Tien Phong Plastic JSC (NTP) and Sai Gon-Ha Noi Bank (SHB) also made gains.
However, energy stocks slid further as oil prices continued to slide on global exchanges.
PetroVietnam Drilling and Well Service Corp (PVD) and PetroVietnam Technical Service Corp (PVS) edged down 0.4 per cent and 0.5 per cent, respectively.
The Bank for Investment and Development of Viet Nam (BID) and Asia Commercial Bank (ACB) extended their losses.
Nearly 70 million shares were exchanged in the early session, worth VND1.5 trillion (US$67.5 million). — VNS
