Shares open higher on both exchanges

Shares opened higher on the two stock exchanges and maintained the upward trend towards the end of Monday’s morning trade.

The VN-Index on the HCM Stock Exchange increased 1.7 per cent to 951.12 points, while on the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index edged up 1.3 per cent to 113.05 points.

Large caps improved and lifted the two markets.

Twenty four of the top 30 largest shares by market value and liquidity on HCM City’s bourse gained value and only four declined.

Energy stocks led the market gain with most large oil and gas shares growing substantially, including PV Gas (GAS), up 6.7 per cent; PetroVietnam Technical Services (PVS), up 5.7 per cent; PetroVietnam Southern Gas (PGS), up 5.3 per cent; and PetroVietnam Drilling and Well Services (PVD), up 2.3 per cent.

Banks were mixed. The two largest lenders, Vietcombank (VCB) and Vietinbank (CTG), increased 3.7 per cent and 2.3 per cent, respectively, however BIDV (BID) remained unchanged and Vietnam International Bank (VIB) and Eximbank (EIB) lost value.

In terms of a single stock, FLC Faros Construction (ROS) was the largest gainer, hitting the maximum daily rise of seven per cent at VND146,400 (US$6.42) per share.

Shares of brewer Sabeco (SAB) inched up 0.3 per cent to VND310,000 ahead of the auction of 343.6 million shares, or 53.59 per cent of Sabeco, offered by the Ministry of Industry and Trade on Monday afternoon on the HCM Stock Exchange.

The initial selling price of the auction is VND320,000 per share.

A total of 193 million shares worth a combined VND3.5 trillion were traded on the two markets in morning trade.
