Shares mixed on two exchanges

Shares extended losses on Wednesday morning in as investors shifted part of their money into small- and mid-cap stocks.

The VN-Index on the HCM Stock Exchange slid 0.67 per cent to close at 946.95 points by the end of morning trade.

Large-cap stocks continued on the downward trend with 18 of the top 30 largest stocks by market value and liquidity falling and only eight advancing.

Vinamilk (VNM) was down over two per cent; brewer Sabeco (SAB) decreased 0.6 per cent; and others such as Vietinbank (CTG), Masan Group (MSN), FLC Faros Construction (ROS) and VinGroup (VIC) declined 1-2 per cent.

A positive factor was that money is moving into small- and mid-cap stocks, which lifted value of these companies. Substantial gainers included Hai Agrochem (HAI), ADM Group (ADM), Hoang Anh Gia Lai Co (HAG) and Hoang Anh Gia Lai Agriculture Investment (HNG).

Liquidity remained at a high level with nearly 135 million shares worth VND3.6 trillion (US$158 million)traded.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index recouped 0.19 per cent to end at 113.45 points with over 49 million shares worth VND662 trillion being exchanged.
