Shares extended gains on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange on Friday morning but turned to decline on the Ha Noi Stock Exchange.
The VN-Index was up 0.36 per cent to 970.11 points while the HNX-Index inched down 0.04 per cent.
Bank stocks slowed down this morning and oil and gas stocks took the lead to drive the market.
The biggest listed gas company PV Gas (GAS) rose 1.3 per cent while the PetroVietnam Technical Services (PVS) and PetroVietnam Drilling and Wells Service (PVD) climbed 3.4 per cent and 2.3 per cent, respectively.
Some banks maintained growth such as BIDV (BID), Vietcombank (VCB), Military Bank (MBB), Vietnam Prosperity Bank (VPB) and Techcombank (TCB) but with modest growth of below 1 per cent. Four banks declined, including Eximbank (EIB), Sai Gon-Ha Noi Bank (SHB), Ho Chi Minh Development Bank and National Citizen Bank (NVB).
Liquidity was still low with just 101.6 million shares worth VND1.8 trillion (US$76 million) traded on the two markets.
