Shares inch higher on large-cap stocks

The market rose on Monday morning, boosted by strong gains in large-cap stocks, especially bank stocks.

The VN-Index on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE) climbed 11 points, or 0.8 per cent, to 1,383.73 points.

The market's breadth was positive with higher liquidity. Accordingly, investors poured nearly VND12.3 trillion (US$540 million), equivalent to a trading volume of more than 428.4 million shares.

The index extended rallies on back of pillar stocks, with the VN30-Index up 16.83 points, or 1.14 per cent, to 1,493.37 points.

Twenty-four of 30 biggest stocks in the VN30 basket posted gains, while five declined and one stayed unchanged.

Bank stocks led the market's uptrend this morning. Of which Techcombank (TCB) was the biggest gainer, up 3.35 per cent.

Many big banks boosting the market's rally reported increases of more than 1 per cent, including Vietinbank (CTG), BIDV (BID), MBBank (MBB), VPBank (VPB) and Saigon Hanoi Commercial Joint Stock Bank (SHB).

Hoa Phat Group (HPG) and Vingroup (VIC) also contributed to the trend, up 1.97 per cent and 0.22 per cent, respectively.

On the Hà Nội Stock Exchange (HNX), the HNX-Index edged 0.55 per cent higher to 373.95 points. VNS
