HA NOI (Biz Hub) — The VN-Index closed unchanged this morning at 660.4 points, following investor caution about market volatility.

The losers outnumbered the gainers by 125 to 81, while 103 closed flat.

Nearly half of the 30 largest shares by market capitalisation lost value, such as real estate firm VinGroup (VIC) and large lenders Vietinbank (CTG), Sacombank (STB), BIDV (BID).

Some bucked the trend and cushioned the market fall.

Private equity firm Masan Group (MSN) continued to rise by the daily limit of seven per cent, while dairy producer Vinamilk (VNM) increased 1.6 per cent.

Oil and gas stocks also recovered, with PV Gas (GAS) adding 1.6 per cent and PetroVietnam Drilling and Wells Service (PVD) rising 0.4 per cent.

Trading was slow, with just 66.4 million shares worth more than VND1.7 trillion (US$76 million) being exchanged on the HCM City's market.

On the smaller exchange in Ha Noi, the HNX-Index inched down 0.7 per cent to end at 83.1 points. The market saw more than 16 million shares, worth VND216 billion, being traded by the end of the morning.

The afternoon session begins at 1pm. — VNS
