Shares gain on banking stocks

 Vietnamese shares gained on Wednesday morning as the large-caps in the banking sector were spurred by buying forces.

The benchmark VN-Index on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange rose 0.56 per cent to 1,034.98 points.

The VN-Index on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange inched down 0.07 per cent to close Tuesday at 1,029.26 points.

More than 313 million shares were traded on the southern bourse, worth VND6.4 trillion (US$277.2 million).

The large-cap tracker VN30-Index was up 0.67 per cent to 1,000.29 points.

Nineteen of the 30 large-cap stocks in the VN30 basket increased while seven declined.

Among the gainers were Vietcombank (VCB), and Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BID), Vietinbank (CTG), Military Bank (MBB), Techcombank (TCB) and VPBank (VPB).

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index rose 0.49 per cent to 157.37 points.

The index gained 1.56 per cent to close Tuesday at 156.61 points.
