Shares fail to retain gains

HA NOI (Biz Hub)— National stocks tumbled during this morning's session after yesterday's gains.

On the HCM City Stock Exchange, the VN-Index lost 0.4 per cent to 499.65 points.

The VN30, composed of the city's 30 largest stocks in terms of capitalisation and liquidity, also shed 0.3 per cent to reach 559.72 points.

Trading on blue chips was gloomy. Only six stocks - steelmaker Hoa Phat (HPG), PetroVietnam General Services (PET), Refrigeration Electric Engineering (REE), food processor Bourbon Tay Ninh (SBT), property giant Vingroup (VIC) and Vinh Son-Song Hinh Hydropower (VSH) - posted gains.

The value of trades declined by nearly VND200 billion (US$9.4 million) compared to yesterday morning, stopping at VND598.4 billion ($28.2 million) as trading volume fetched only 41.1 million shares.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index slid almost 0.8 per cent to 61.46 points on a total turnover of VND117.5 billion ($5.5 million), dropping around 42 per cent over yesterday morning's figure.

The HNX30, tracking the northern exchange's 30 big-hitters, also fell more than 0.7 per cent to stand at 115.08 points. —VNS
