Shares extended gains on Wednesday morning on the two national stock exchanges but divergence continued to expand in the large caps group.

The VN-Index on the HCM Stock Exchange edged up 0.28 per cent to 827.56 points.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index increased 0.38 per cent to 107.10 points

Large caps were mixed. Sixteen of the top 30 largest shares by market value and liquidity on the main bourse in HCM City advanced, while 13 declined.

Big gainers continued to support the market, including FLC Faros Construction (ROSE), up 6.1 per cent, Mobile World Group (MWG), up 1.5 per cent, and Vinamilk (VNM) and insurer Bao Viet Holdings (BVH), both up by 0.6 per cent.

On the defensive side, real estate and construction and steelmaking companies saw negative trade, with large companies such as VinGroup (VIC), Novaland Investment Group (NVL), HCM City Infrastructure Investment (CII), Hoa Phat Group and Hoa Sen Group (HSG) all slumping.

A total of 110 million shares worth over VND2.5 trillion (US$110 million) were traded in the two markets.
