Shares drop on falling blue-chips

Shares failed to gain on Wednesday morning due to selling pressure weighing on large-cap stocks.

The benchmark VN-Index on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange lost 0.03 per cent to end at 855.91 points.

The index gained 2.84 per cent to end Wednesday at 856.13 points.

More than 229.4 million shares were traded on the southern bourse, worth nearly VND2.4 trillion (US$103 million).

The blue-chip share tracker VN30-Index dropped 0.3 per cent to 796.45 points.

Nine-teen of the 30 largest stocks by market valuation and trading liquidity decreased while nine increased.

Among decliners were Vingroup (VIC), Bao Viet Holdings (BVH), Hoa Phat Group (HPG), Vinamilk (VNM), Vietinbank (CTG), Techcombank (TCB), VPBank (VPB), Bank for Investment and Development of Viet Nam (BID) and Military Bank (MBB).

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index was down 1.21 per cent to close Wednesday at 114.09 points.

More than 43 million shares were traded on the northern bourse, worth nearly VND302 billion.
