Shares climb on the rise of bank stocks

Shares made strong gains on Monday morning, propelled by the growth of banking stocks.

On the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE), the VN-Index increased 0.99 per cent to reach 1,236.54 points. The market breadth was still neutral as 220 stocks climbed while 210 stocks declined.

The market's liquidity was also high as local investors poured over VNĐ14.4 trillion into the market, equivalent to a trading amount of over 619.8 million shares.

The 30 large-cap tracker VN30-Index posted a gain of 1 per cent to 1,250.38 points. Of the 30 biggest stocks in market capitalisation, 20 rose while nine stocks slid and one stayed unchanged.

The market's trend still gained the most support from banking stocks.

Vietcombank (VCB) was the biggest gainer, up 4.8 per cent.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange (HNX), the HNX-Index climbed 0.04 per cent to 295.00 points as the HNX30-Index, tracking the 30 biggest stocks in the northern market, posted a gain of 0.89 per cent to 448.16 points. VNS
