Shares climb on blue-chips stocks

Vietnamese shares advanced on Monday morning as large-cap companies continued progressing on strong purchasing power.

The benchmark VN-Index on the Hồ Chí Minh Stock Exchange gained 0.39 per cent to 898.03 points.

The index had risen 0.63 per cent to 894.57 points.

More than 228 million shares were traded on the southern exhange, worth VNĐ4 trillion (US$173 million).

The southern market was driven by large-cap shares with the blue-chip tracker VN30-Index rising 0.24 per cent to 834.23 points.

Sacombank (STB) were among the top performers, rising 4 per cent.

Other large-cap gainers included steel maker Hoa Phat Group (HPG), PetroVietnam Gas JSC (GAS), Vingroup (VIC) and Sabeco (SAB).

The securities sector was also the best-performing industry as it rose 1.8 per cent, according to vietstock.vn.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index was up 0.19 per cent to 127.68 points.

More than 37.8 million shares were traded on northern exchanges, worth VND386 billion.
