Securities stocks boost national indices

HA NOI (Biz Hub) — The sudden activeness of securities stocks during the last minutes of the afternoon trading helped the benchmark indices advance on both the national stock exchanges yesterday.

Securities stocks became the market's highlight yesterday after it was announced that securities companies will be the first to be allowed to increase foreign stakes.

Sai Gon Securities (SSI) rose by 6.9 per cent to its ceiling price of VND24,900 (US$1.18) per share.

Agribank Securities (AGR), HCM City Securities (HCM) and BIDV Securities (BSI) also advanced by 6.2 per cent, 7 per cent and 6.5 per cent, respectively, to close at their ceiling prices.

On HCM City Stock Exchange, the VN-Index added 7.94 points or as much as 1.44 per cent to end at 559.04 points. The strong resistance band of 600 points will be challenged next week.

However, the trading volume and value remained at a low level. More than 60.8 million shares changed hands yesterday, worth VND850 billion ($40.4 million).

Yesterday, 165 codes were adding value while 57 codes dropped.

The VN30-Index, tracking the performance of the southern bourse's 30 largest stocks by capitalisation and liquidity, advanced 1.14 per cent to end at 608.48 points, with 22 gainers.

Among these, only Kinh Do Corporation (KDC) posted loss yesterday, falling by 1.7 per cent.

Banking stocks also advanced, including Vietcombank (VCB), Sacombank (STB), Eximbank (EIB) and Military Bank (MBB).

Other advancers included Bao Viet Holdings (BVH), which added 4 per cent or VND1,500 ($0.071) per share, Hoa Phat Group (HPG) and FPT Group (FPT), which rose by 2.9 per cent and 1.8 per cent, respectively.

Stocks of the real estate sector were also active. FLC group (FLC) rose 4.8 per cent and led the southern bourse by trading volume with 9.62 million shares changing hands, followed by Hoang Quan Corporation (HQC).

Securities stocks were also the most active on the Ha Noi Exchange.

Many securities stocks advanced to their ceiling prices, including Kim Long Securities (KLS), Bao Viet Securities (BVS) and VN Direct Securities (VND). These stocks were heavily traded by foreign investors.

The VN-Index jumped by 1.82 per cent to close at 75.85 points while the HNXFF-Index closed 1.85 per cent higher at 76.53 points.

The HNX30-Index, tracking the top stocks, advanced 3.14 per cent to land at 152.88 points.

The trading volume and value slightly improved over the previous sessions, with 46.5 million shares traded worth VND428 billion ($20.3 million).

Foreign investors boosted net purchase on the northern bourse yesterday, with the net volume and net value rising by 191.59 per cent to 2.29 billion shares and 114.79 per cent to VND30.35 billion ($14.4 million), respectively, over the previous trading session.

On both bourses, the net figures were 2.8 million shares and VND36.2 billion ($1.72 million), rising 101 per cent and 51 per cent over Thursday. — VNS
