HA NOI (Biz Hub) — Most Asian stock markets went up on July 9 after China took steps to halt trading in shares.

In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng Index gained 876.23 points to close at 24,392.79, and in mainland China, the Shanghai Index edged up 202.14 points to finish at 3,709.33. In Japan, the Nikkei 225 added 117.86 points to end at 19,855.50, while Singapore's Straits Times Index dropped 17.59 points to close at 3,267.40.

Vietnamese indices continued to fall during Thursday's trading session. On the HCM Stock Exchange, the VN Index declined 1.07 points to close at 622.10, and the HNX Index on the Ha Noi Stock Exchange lost 0.21 point to end at 87.92. — VNS
