Most Asian indices, except in China, ascend

HA NOI (Biz Hub) — The Asian market closed up on January 8, but Chinese investors lost.

The Nikkei 225 added 344.57 points to reach 17,229.90 and the Topix Index gained 22.86 points to close at 1,382.66 in Tokyo.

The Hang Seng Index added 126.85 points to reach 23,808.21 in Hong Kong, while the Straits Times Index edged up 46.48 points to end at 3,344.84 in Singapore.

The two bourses in Viet Nam gained on the same day. The VN edged up 1.42 points to close at 553.47 and the HNX rose slightly by 0.19 points to finish at 84.38.

Meanwhile, the Shanghai Composite Index in mainland China lost 80.50 points to close at 3,293.46 — VNS
