Giant mobile phone retailer Mobile World Group on Tuesday revealed that it might, for the first time, achieve sales of US$2 billion this year.

At a meeting with investors in HCM City on Wednesday, CEO Nguyen Duc Tai said revenues in the first three quarters this year topped VND30.8 trillion (US$1.4 billion), up 76 per cent year-on-year and representing 90 per cent of the year’s target.

He expected sales to surge further in the last quarter, the annual year-end shopping season.

“During the last quarter, revenue each month is expected to be VND4-5 trillion. With that, the revenue this year will be $2 billion, for the first time.”

MWG achieved post-tax profit of over VND1.2 trillion in the first nine months, up 64 per cent year-on-year and representing 88 per cent of the full-year target.

This year saw the expansion of MWG’s electronic retail chain, DienmayXanh.

The chain has achieved a growth of 211 per cent so far this year.

Talking about the future Tai said in 2017 dienmayxanh.com would continue to be expanded while more money would be poured into mini convenient store chain Bach Hoa Xanh.

Furthermore, online super market vuivui.com would also be developed, he said.

MWG has expanded in all provinces and cities, including in remote areas.

In the first nine months of this year it opened 419 stores, which included 338 thegioididong.com mobile phone outlets and 81 dienmayxanh.com stores.
