Major Asian shares close down

HA NOI (Biz Hub) — Most of the Asian shares went down on March 10.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Airline System Bhd. headed for a record low after one of its planes bound for Beijing vanished two days ago with 239 people onboard.

The Hang Seng Index lost 395.56 points to end the day at 22,264.93 points in Hong Kong, while the Shanghai Composite Index in mainland China lost 58.77 points to end at 1,999.14 points.

In Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 153.93 points to end at 15,120.14 and the Topix Index slipped 9.36 points to close at 1,227.61.

The Straits Times Index also declined 9.36 points to close at 3,126.6 in Singapore, while its neighbouring FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI Index - Kuala Lumpur Composite Index closed down 10.20 points to finish at 1,822.06 in Kuala Lumpur.

As the only exceptions, the local two bourses recorded better results. The VN Index added 3.94 points to reach 583.69 in HCM City, and the HNX Index also edged up 0.64 points to close at 82.80 in the capital city of Viet Nam. — VNS
