HA NOI (Biz Hub) — The gold prices remained unchanged in Viet Nam but the world gold prices slipped on July 14, after making gains for six consecutive weeks.

At 10am in Ha Noi, each tael of the state-owned SJC gold was listed at VND36.93 million or $1,758 per tael at the Saigon Jewellery Company, the same price as last week.

Meanwhile, on the global gold trading floor, kitco.com, the gold price lost $9.7 per ounce and was listed at $1,329.3 per ounce or $1,601 per tael. According to reuters.com, the prices fell because the Asian share markets gained strength. But the metal's prices stayed close to a four-month high last week because of its appeal as a safe haven following escalating tensions in the Middle East and Ukraine.

Thus, each tael of gold in Viet Nam was $157 higher than in the world market.

On the morning of July 14, most commercial banks reduced the dollar's buying and selling rates by VND60 and VND90 respectively. Thus, the dollar prices are now back to the rate that existed before the State Bank of Vietnam lowered the VND by 1per cent against the US dollar on June 19.

On the same day, SBV listed each US dollar for VND21,246, unchanged from its new rate since June 19. The central bank also set the ceiling price for a dollar at VND21,458.5.

Vietcombank rated each dollar's buying and selling rate at VND21,150 and VND21,220 respectively in the morning; Eximbank and ACB set them at VND21,140 and VND21,220; and BIDV and VietinBank at VND21,170 and VND21,230 respectively.
