At the Bank for Investment and Development of Viet Nam, the buying rate was up five dong at VND21,180 per dollar, and the selling rate was down 10 dong at VND21,230 per dollar.

The State Bank of Viet Nam said the recent increases in the dollar rates were mainly due to psychological factors, were within the permitted range and were not worrying.

The central bank was capable of interfering strongly in the monetary market if necessary, it added.
