Blue chips drive shares down

HA NOI (Biz Hub)– Shares this morning retreated as blue chips failed to add value.

On the HCM City Stock Exchange, among the 30 largest stocks in terms of capitalisation and liquidity, only logistics company Gemadept (GMD) and Military Bank (MBB) closed in the green. Two others, including PetroVietnam Low Pressure Gas Distribution (PGD) and property developer Vingroup (VIC) remained unchanged. Meanwhile, around 10 blue chips dropped 2-4 per cent.

The VN30, tracking these 30 stocks, shed over 1 per cent to 551.13 points, while the benchmark VN-Index lost 1.25 per cent to 498.01 points.

Trading value was virtually unchanged at VND745.67 billion (US$35.1 million) on a volume of 31.5 million shares.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index slid 0.8 per cent to 62.49 points.

With more than 13 million shares changing hands, the value of trades jumped 29 per cent to VND109.7 billion ($5.2 million) following profit-taking.

The HNX30, representing the performance of the bourse's leading shares, also tumbled 0.8 per cent to 117.95 points. – VNS
