Blue chips continue to drag down market

HA NOI – The markets slid further this morning as investors rushed to unload shares amid fears of a steep decline.

On the HCM Stock Exchange, the VN-Index lost 1.49 per cent to close the morning at 577.33 points.

The blue chips were again the main drag on the market, with the VN30 index, which tracks the top 30 shares by market capitalisation and liquidity, fell 1.81 per cent to close at 636.02.

More than 74 million shares and fund certificates, worth nearly VND1.25 trillion, or US$59.2 million, were traded by the end of the morning.

The Tan Tao Investment Industry Corporation continued to lead the stocks on the southern bourse, with 7 million shares changing hands at VND9,000 per share, down 4.26 per cent from yesterday.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index also slid 1.56 per cent to end at 83.02 points.

Trading remained sluggish as just 52 million shares, worth over VND554 billion, or $26.3 million, were exchanged.

The PetroVietnam Construction Corporation was the most active code this morning, with over 7.2 million of its shares being traded. But the prices fell by 6.78 per cent to end at VND5,500 per share.
