Asian shares end higher on Friday

HA NOI (Biz Hub) — The Straits Times Index gained 19.57 points to 3,324.39 in Singapore on December 5.

Shares in Hong Kong and Shanghai extended their recent rally on Friday. The Hang Seng Index rose 0.71 per cent, or 170.08 points, to 24,002.64 on turnover of HK$147.76 billion (US$19.06 billion).

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index jumped 1.32 per cent, or 38.19 points, to 2,937.65, its highest since April 2011. The index rose 9.50 per cent over the week.

The Nikkei 225 gained 33.24 points to reach 17,920.45 in Tokyo.

The two bourses in Viet Nam closed mixed on the same day. The VN Index gained 0.38 points to close at 578.76, and the HNX lost 0.12 points to finish at 88.63. — VNS
